[He can barely even process the Naruto reference at a time like this, but the part about punishment time definitely breaks through. He finds himself flashing back to the island, when he had to summon the strength to face his own execution with a defiantly brave face.
It's harder this time, to find that courage. Separated from the classmates and facing a version of his own self that is truly devoid of morality, that would even destroy that which was most precious to him, he could only feel that he is facing his own worst fate. The ice spreads up his legs, while an anaconda circles him.
He doesn't pay attention to the other proceedings going on, but he does hear Junko's squabbling.]
Wh-what now?! [He's not sure why he's even still engaging her, when he knows he can't rely on her for anything.]
[She's reluctant to answer Gundam right away. Usually she has an answer for everything, or it doesn't take her very long to figure one out. But this is a despairingly unusual situation.
After all, there's Gundam Tanaka, the last representative of Class 77 is about to face certain doom at the hands of his past self made manifest by whatever spookiness is going on here. And she'd like nothing more than to witness and despair over that. A lovely reminder of how the past is inescapable no matter how much one moves forward.
But then she's got this thing gooping out of the wall and looking at her. No doubt another trick of the cellar, but she still can't shake this worrisome feeling that she could be wrong. What if it's the actual reaper. Here to punish her for playing a part in Gundam's demise. It goes against how things work, she's never heard of it showing up preemptively, but what if she's wrong?
Those doubts and fears are normally rare, but being down here in this cellar makes a chill run down her spine, it makes her worry and fret, it makes all these things happen that don't normally happen and she can't help but laugh a little thinking about it, giggling normally, not like Monokuma.]
What a super despair inducing place to be! I wouldn't mind this being a regular attraction.
[And with that exclamation, it's time to start dealing with this mess, so as much as it pains her to do so, she'll tear her gaze away from the spooky eyeball and look over at Gundam, deciding to actually help...in her own way.]
Hey, Tanaka-senpai, don't you know it's totally gross to play with yourself where people can see?
[They're both in terrible danger, and she's being gross. But there's more here, she thinks she knows what she's doing.]
Just face your fear or whatever you're supposed to do, so we can be done with this already. Seriously, if this thing over here's not a trick of the haunted house and I lose my despair because you can't deal with a little smoke and mirrors, I'm never going to forgive you! I mean it! You'll totally regret it and it'll totally be worse than anything else I've ever done to you!
[They're probably empty threats, but it's probably best to confront the despair clone over there rather than call her bluff.]
[The ice spreads higher and higher, making its way up Gundam's midsection as he looks into his other self's red eyes, transfixed with horror. Is this his destiny? Is this darkness what awaits him, no matter where he goes? Even here, countless dimensions away from Hope's Peak...
He makes a few futile flails every now and then, but it's hopeless. This is one demon that he can't summon the strength to face. He doubts that he ever could defeat it.
Still, Junko's voice continues to break through the background noise. He glowers at her joke about playing with himself and then continues to listen. A frustration starts to mount within him, steam coming from his ears. At least it slows the spread of the ice.]
E-enough! [He barks angrily.] Why should I even listen to a single word set forth by your forked tongue?! [Some of what she's saying does make an unusual amount of sense. Mostly the part about facing his fears! But a faint barrier of distrust materializes between Junko and Gundam. He doesn't know what to believe. What to trust!]
[A valid point, Gundam. But she's got a great counterpoint here. Or at least she thinks it is, noting how the ice seems to be slowing.]
What've you got to lose?
[It's short and to the point, she could go more in detail, but she doesn't feel the need to do that. He's already covered in ice and who knows what's going to happen with Shadow Gundam over there, could listening to her really make things worse?
The answer is usually yes, but probably not in this case.]
[That's a good question. What does he have to lose? He has already lost all of his classmates and other friends. They have become like a distant memory. But he's not alone. Not when he still has his Dark Devas of Destruction and various other familiars! ...And some other humans who are pretty okay.
There's only two options. Listen to Junko, or be destroyed by his other self. So, there are only two options to face.
He continues looking at the despair-ridden version of himself, and he focuses his energies. Ignoring his fear, he thinks of Junko, he thinks of the Remnants of Despair. And he boils with anger.
Now, when he looks the other him in the eyes, it's with eyes full of rage.]
I RENOUNCE YOU!!
[As he shouts that out, he radiates heat that melts the ice away. In the light of that flame, the shadowy forms of the other Gundam and the various other animals dissolve into nothingness.]
[There's an audible sigh of relief from Junko when Gundam beats the wraith. Because if he's faced his fears and isn't getting killed by it in front of her, then she has little to worry about. So the spectral reaper she was worried about either dissipates as well, or if it's still there, she doesn't care quite as much now. Which means she can be obnoxious about things now.]
Hooray! You did it! Congratulations! I knew you could do it! You totally defeated your past and proved the haunted house's macabre powers are no match for your All Seeing Eye!
[No, that doesn't really work for her actually, so she'll settle back down almost immediately.]
Actually you know what, forget that. I'd normally continue and go on and on about this, but I think I'm going to get out of here before there's an encore.
[Gundam stands there, breathing heavily in the aftermath of that encounter with steam billowing around him. Being congratulated by Junko, with her acknowledging his power, happens to among the most disturbing things he's heard. It's just as sickening yo realize that he had reason to thank her (but he won't).
It's easier to home in on her final statements. He speaks without looking at her.]
That has to be the first wise thing you've said within the entirety of your meager human existence. Enoshima... From these unholy halls, I banish thee!!
[Maybe he should banish himself, too. As much as he'd like to get to the bottom of whatever's happening here, he feels the need to rest after that entire mess.]
All right, just this once. And it's not because your banishing spell actually worked or anything.
[After that slightly tsundere comment, she'll take her leave. She's definitely going to wonder about what the hell happened down here and give it a lot of thought, she just doesn't really want to be in the cellar while she does.]
